Hall Wines Values

The right values at HALL and responsible business practices are a clear catalyst for change, both now and in the future. Craig and Kathryn Hall believe that we should leave the world in a better state than we found it, and they have been applying this philosophy for 50 years, both in business and community care, as well as through their family foundation established in 1977.

We CARE therefore summarizes the four areas in which Craig and Kathryn Hall strive to give back to communities and, by extension, the world, what they have been given. These four areas are community, arts, responsible business practices, and entrepreneurship—C.A.R.E.

Community

Hall Winery has long supported the local community, either through community fundraising or practical volunteer work. One example is the catastrophic fires that swept through Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake County in 2017. In addition to financial assistance, the Halls also provided shelter to those who had to leave their homes due to the devastating fires.

Hall has a long history of working with and supporting local non-profit organizations and community groups that care for the environment, provide healthcare, support education, help abandoned animals, assist victims of domestic violence, and others in need.

Art

Craig and Kathryn Hall are passionate art collectors. They also love to support art of all kinds, especially in the form of local arts organizations. It is art and its support that contributes to the unique and diverse character of Napa Valley. That's why the wineries in St. Helena and Rutherford were designed to showcase a unique collection of modern art. You can admire the works of internationally renowned contemporary artists while enjoying Hall's amazing wines.

Every spring, Hall also hosts the Cabernet Cookoff, a food and wine pairing competition. The event brings together culinary teams from around the world to compete for a prize that goes to a local foundation of their choice.

Responsibility

Responsibility is one of Hall's core values. This is reflected in the construction of LEED®-certified wineries (a nationally recognized program for the construction, design, and operation of green buildings), sustainable agriculture, and operating the business with unwavering integrity. In addition, all employees are allowed to devote up to 40 hours per year to volunteer and charitable activities within non-profit organizations. Twelve of Hall Family Wines' vineyards are certified as sustainable by the California Sustainable Wine Growers Association (CSWA, in which the Halls are also actively involved), and two of them—Sacrashe and Bergfeld—are even CCOF (California Certified Organic Farming) certified.

Entrepreneurship

Creating entrepreneurial opportunities through education is extremely important to Mr. and Mrs. Hall. Since 1977, the Craig and Kathryn Hall Foundation has been creating programs around the world that support new entrepreneurs, young start-ups, and the development of education, entrepreneurial opportunities, and responsible business practices.
